Once "Tornei cavallereschi", today are called "Giostra
dell'Arme". During the whole festival traditional costume parades
take place, along with farming life reconstructions, plays, painting
and concerts. |

ASSISI
Celebrations in honour of Saint Francis
Celebration in honour of Saint Francis, Italy's patron, is held on
the 3rd and 4th of October with solemn liturgy celebrations in churches
of S. Francis and S. Maria degli Angeli. During the two days social
celebrations also take place with the involvement of members of the
national government, the Italian government's representative and the
highest regional, provincial and communal authorities. One of Italy's
regions in the name of each other one, offers oil to keep the votive
lamp in front of Saint Francis' tomb burning. Side events include
ballet and folk music shows. |

ORVIETO
Orvieto with taste: the arch of flavors’
The
prestigious oenogastronomic appointment in this beautiful town of
Umbria aims at rediscovering and preserving flavors and traditional
products which otherwise would go forever lost due to increasing
homologation. "A spasso con gusto" is a "take your
time" itinerary to get to know flavors and scents whilst strolling
through the streets, plazas and historical buildings. The "laboratori
del gusto" is a guided tasting as to get to choose and compare
wine and food mostly of Umbria but also from other parts of Italy.
The schedule, which each year varies, will include conferences,
encounter studies and activities promoted by Slow city, the towns
of good living standards, which are united in an international network. |

AMELIA, NARNI, TERNI
“Inedito per Maria” National Songwriters Festival
The event, which first took place in 1995, is held in Amelia, Narni
and Terni and aims to celebrate faith through music's universal message.
It enjoys the patronage of both the Italian President of the Republic
and the Italian Episcopal Conference. The festival features the participation
of several musicians, composers and singers. |

PERUGIA
Eurochocolate
The festival dedicated to the so called "Food of the Gods"
lovers, each year turns the city of Perugia into an extraordinary
sweetshop where every corner and place is converted to chocolate.
The event mainly takes place in Perugia's historical centre but also
involves several other nearby towns. Amateur and semi-professional
workshops, tasting, expos and other activities are continuously presented
at the Teatro dei Golosi, the Galleria Internazionale del Cioccolato
and in Piazza del Bacio. A unique and wide ranging festival where
Italian and foreign confectionery manufacturers are protagonists.
Each edition celebrates chocolate with record breaking events. Massive
chocolate blocks are carved in the middle of the historical centre,
chocolate bricks form shapes similar to the Berlin wall, huge cakes
and the world's biggest Bacio Perugina. |

Trade Fair of White Truffle
The famous expo has reached its XXIII edition and is a chance
for all the truffle lovers to get to know all the novelties on the
market together with other agro industrial foods while having the
possibility to taste and purchase. |

CITTA' DI CASTELLO
Trade Fair of Truffle and Woodland Products
The expo, held in the town centre, aims at setting off white truffle
or trifola (Tuber Magnum Pico) among the most valuable species found
in great quantity in the Alta Valle del Tevere countryside. All the
properties which render white truffle valuable are examined here:
its intense scent, unmistakable and absolute; size and shape, which
must be most regular and round possible; its incomparable flavour,
which is best expressed when served plain without any sauces or dressings.
In the many pavilions, besides truffle, many other local products
are shown, such as mushrooms, chestnuts, honey, soft fruit jam, oil,
wines and cheeses. |

PERUGIA
Ancient Textile Art
As all the other towns of Umbria, Perugia too has a great
local craftsmanship tradition. It is not difficult to encounter along
its streets, shops and local arts and crafts workshops. It is worth
the while to linger in and choose a few pieces of local pottery or
nice Umbrian table cloths.
On the last Saturday and Sunday of each month there is a picturesque
market in the town's historical centre. |
