CITTA' DI CASTELLO
Trade Fair of Truffle and Woodland Products
The expo, held in the town centre, aims at setting off white truffle
or trifola (Tuber Magnum Pico) among the most valuable species found
in great quantity in the Alta Valle del Tevere countryside. All
the properties which render white truffle valuable are examined
here: its intense scent, unmistakable and absolute; size and shape,
which must be most regular and round possible; its incomparable
flavor, which is best expressed when served plain without any sauces
or dressings. In the many pavilions, besides truffle, many other
local products are shown, such as mushrooms, chestnuts, honey, soft
fruit jam, oil, wines and cheeses. |

PERUGIA
Ancient Textile Art
As all the other towns of Umbria, Perugia too has a great
local craftsmanship tradition. It is not difficult to encounter
along its streets, shops and local arts and crafts workshops. It
is worth the while to linger in and choose a few pieces of local
pottery or nice Umbrian table cloths.
On the last Saturday and Sunday of each month there is a picturesque
market in the town's historical centre. |

VALTOPINA
Truffle expo
Since many years Valtopina's Truffle Expo is a nationwide affirmed
and consolidated event in the most significant gastronomic, promotional,
commercial and tourist aspects of this trade area. It was conceived
to meet the region's exquisite food and wines and agricultural
vocation. Each year the expo hosts over 70 local agro industrial
product manufacturers, strictly selected and can count on an average
attendance of around 10,000 visitors. Conferences, seminars and
activities involving schools and all sorts of attractions, along
with dancing nights and movie contests.

TORGIANO
Italian wine tasting
event
A nationwide famous contest, where Umbria's wine making is rejoiced
in the name of quality. In order to judge wines the Union International
des Oenologues' evaluation method is used. To experience wines
in an original way, in Torgiano, during the month of August, an
event called "Vinarelli" is held and proposes a combination
between wine, painting and food.

Book Fair
Umbria libri, first conceived as Umbria's publishing expo, is now
at its eleventh edition and has became a true book celebration which
involves the most charming places in Perugia and Orvieto's historical
centre. Book novelties, the chance to meet authors, debates, conferences,
musical vernissages and literary after dinners focusing around books
together with writers, philosophers and intellectuals both Italian
and foreign. |

Oil and “Bruschetta” Fest
From the 9th to the 24th of November, all around Umbria oil mills
are open to the public providing the chance to get to know the region
of oil, cultivation, harvesting, olive crushing, the sharp and full-bodied
taste of extra vergine olive oil, the prince of the Mediterranean
diet. A trickle of plain oil brings to life every dish. Spicy enough,
with a sweetish deep green colour, Umbria's oil is known worldwide.
From November 25, 1997, the European Commission granted Umbria's
extra vergine olive oil the status of oil of guaranteed origin placing
it among the "Denomination of protected origin" foods. |

The Mountain Community of Monte Peglia and Selva Montana organises
together with the province of Terni and the Gal Trasimeno-Orvieto,
"Agriturismi a porte aperte" (Open Farmhouses), an event
to set off the territory and oenogastronomy. "Il castello del
dolce" in Parrano you will have the chance to taste typical
local sweet dishes, special menus based on truffle in the Orvieto
area, the "torta sotto l'foco" festival, chestnuts and
novello wine are only some of the gastronomic itineraries which
sublime the rich flavored genuine cuisine of the Orvieto-Todi area.
Rediscover the taste of classic regional dishes, taste the traditional
country cuisine intense flavors in extraordinary farmhouses full
of history. Take a stroll through the country side surrounded by
green olives and vines before reaching historical villages and rural
communities castled upon hilltops and embraced by medieval walls.
They preserve in time the artistic crafts of laces, wrought iron
and baskets weaved by expert hands.
Weekends dedicated to wine, jam, products of the woods, truffle
and the "torta", the one and only Umbrian pizza, cooked
on live charcoal and blends perfectly in with red meat, cold meats
and cheeses.
